Microbiology Lab

Features high-resolution microscopes, autoclaves, and culture media to study pathogens, sterilization, and infection control.

In hospital settings, preventing cross-contamination and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) is paramount. The Microbiology Lab provides nursing students with essential practical knowledge regarding disease-causing microorganisms, modes of transmission, and scientific sterilization techniques.

Key Features & Facilities:

  • Advanced Microscopy: Compound binocular microscopes for examining bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic specimens.
  • Sterilization Equipment: Industrial-grade autoclaves, hot air ovens, and UV sterilization chambers to demonstrate hospital disinfection methods.
  • Culture & Staining Station: Gram staining kits, culture media plates, inoculating loops, and incubators for pathogen identification.
  • Infection Control & PPE Bay: Dedicated area for practicing proper hand hygiene, donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Practical Learning Outcomes:
Students gain practical expertise in identifying common hospital pathogens, performing Gram staining, understanding antibiotic resistance, executing proper surgical hand scrubbing, and managing biomedical waste disposal safely.
